Dai began running around Navy ships 31 years ago during his first military deployment and has run or ridden ever since in one direction or another. His experiences over this long period and constant thirst for knowledge have enabled him to compete very successfully and provide advice to many aspiring and experienced runners and multisport athletes.
Dai is a sought after consultant, coach, adviser and guide to many.
Dai has achieved a 2nd and 3rd overall placing at the Shamrock Marathon and won the Disney Marathon outright in 2002, he ran 2:38 at the 2008 Boston Marathon and ran 13 other marathons under 2:35 all after the age of 40. He was recently labeled in The Washington Runner as “the man for long distances”.
Dai won 10km gold at the European Masters track championships held in Poland in 2006 and 10km Bronze at the World Masters track held in Puerto Rico in 2003.
Dai has won Great Britain National Military Cross country and road racing titles at Half Marathon and at the London Marathon.In his first Duathlon, Dai won the M45 Bronze Medal at the World Championships in 2007. Completing IRONMAN Lake Placid in 2016, Dai plans to race an IRONMAN every 5 years starting with IM Coeur d'Alene in 2021.
Dai began advising others about their training in 2001 and since then has coached runners and triathletes at many levels from Middle School Nationals, Western States 100 finisher, Olympic-Ironman Triathlon Age Group Winners and Olympic triallists. He has qualified as a UK Athletics distance coach, a USATF coach and a USA Cycling coach.
